Whether you are currently settling an estate or planning to appoint an executor in the future, the following checklist can help prepare you for the key responsibilities involved.
An executor's duties can be time-consuming. It may take up to a year or longer, depending on the size and value of the estate, as well as the time it takes to fully settle all of the deceased's financial affairs, through probate and otherwise.
Essentially, once the accounts have been successfully passed by the court (with or without a hearing), the estate is considered closed and the executor is released from any further responsibilities.
