Discount Rate

Generally, the percentage amount by which an asset is reduced. In banking, it is the rate charged by the Bank of Canada to financial institutions (also called the “Bank Rate”) . In appraisals, this is a percentage applied to a valuation to reflect a reduction due to a variety of deficiencies, such as a lack of control, lack of marketability etc.
