Diversification

The status of a number of things which are not the same. In financial terms this is an objective of portfolios to reduce risk. By holding a number of investments which are not correlated (affected by the same market forces) the expectation is that some portions of the portfolio will always continue to perform, offsetting loses in those portions which are not.
